Performance Sports Programme

Our Performance Sports Programme is designed to optimise our facilities and coaching in our core sports of cricket, hockey, netball, rugby, swimming, and tennis. Our programme offers your child additional training opportunities, masterclasses and skills development sessions from professional and international athletes, bespoke strength and conditioning plans, advice on sports psychology, nutrition and lifestyle management, and a tailored mentoring system.

We believe there is no reason why your child cannot gain excellent academic qualifications, whilst also pursuing their sporting dreams. By balancing your child’s individual academic needs, where our expectations are still high, and adapting their timetable, their training and practice time will be optimised without detriment to their schooling.

Cricket

Requiring year-round commitment and management, your child will participate in mixed coaching sessions throughout the year. Two weekly net practices and a strength and conditioning session take place during the autumn and spring terms, whilst fixtures against local and regional opponents fill the summer.

As a leading cricketer, your child will be invited to participate in pre-season tours both domestically and overseas and if a member of the 1st XI, may play against the prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), a highly anticipated event in our cricket calendar.

Hockey

As a top hockey player, your child will benefit from additional coaching and skills development sessions throughout the year. They will receive support and guidance from our experienced hockey coaches, play regular fixtures against local schools, and compete in regional and national tournaments.

Each year we are proud to have pupils who are selected to participate in the England Hockey Player Pathway, playing representative hockey at every level up to and including Regional Performance Centre, Future Cup and National Age Group Squads.

Netball

Additional performance coaching will be in place for your child during the autumn term, in preparation for the season beginning in the spring term. Your child will attend twice weekly strength and conditioning training, alongside supplementary skills and development sessions to support match play.

Led by our experienced and passionate coaches, your child will be able to work towards selection for the England Player Pathway with continued success, supported by close links with Mavericks, London Pulse and local clubs including Tegate, Cross Keys, Turnford, and Hornets.

Rugby

Alongside a competitive fixtures list in the autumn term, your child will be invited to pre-season training, working on skill development and teamwork. Our year-round strength and conditioning programme gives your child the necessary support for developing their game, alongside specialist mentoring from visiting ex-professional and international players.

Your child will be guided and supported in their rugby journey with aims for representative honours including selection to Saracens Development Player Pathway, Elite Development Player Group, and regional and national squads.

Swimming

Led by our Head of Aquatics, your child will be supported through regionals, nationals and further should they wish. We are proud to have close links with Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club, providing first-class training for your child.

A balanced training and academic timetable, whilst facilitating adequate rest and recovery time, means your child will develop essential skills outside of the pool alongside optimising their in-pool technique and development.

Tennis

Alongside a wide range of fixtures and local, regional and national competitions in the summer term, your child will benefit from year-round coaching and hitting sessions, player analysis, skills development, strength and conditioning, sports psychology and masterclasses.

The Sport Scholars programme provides many lectures about various aspects of sport presented by ex-professionals and other qualified sportsmen/women, such as goal setting, managing being a student-athlete and nutrition which have all contributed to my understanding about being a well-rounded athlete.
